The Art & Science Behind Writing Ecommerce Product Descriptions

This is the third in a series of posts about the art and science behind writing ecommerce product descriptions. If you haven’t read the first two posts, you can find them here and here.

In this post, we’re going to look at how to write product descriptions in an ecommerce store. We’ll start by looking at what to include in a product description and how to structure it, and then look at the different ways you can describe a product on your ecommerce site. Finally, we’ll look at some of the common mistakes people make when writing product descriptions and how you can avoid them.

## What to Include in a Product Description

The first thing you need to decide is what you want your product descriptions to look like. There are a number of different things you can include in your descriptions, including:

– A brief description of the product

– Detailed information about the product, such as the material it’s made from, what it’s used for, and how it can be used

– Information about where the product can be purchased

– Links to the product in other parts of your site

– Reviews and ratings for the product on third-party sites

– Images of the item

Let’s look at each of these in more detail.

## A Brief Description of the Product

A product description should be short and to the point. It should be no more than a couple of sentences long, and it should be written in the first person, as if you were talking to a potential customer. You don’t want to bore your customers with long product descriptions, so keep them to a maximum of two or three sentences. If your product description is longer than this, you should break it up into two or more shorter descriptions and link to each of them from the main description.

## Detailed Information About the Product, Such as the Material It’s Made From, What It’s Used For, and How It Can Be Used

This is the most important part of your description. You need to include as much information about your product as you can think of. It’s a good idea to include some of this information in the brief description above, but you should also include it in a separate section of the description. For example, if your product is a pair of shoes, you could include the following information in your description:

– The material the shoes are made from

– How the shoes can be worn

– Where you can purchase the shoes

– How to care for the shoes

## Information About Where the Product Can Be Purchased

You should include information about where your customers can purchase your product. This could be as simple as a link to your online store, but it could also include links to third party sites where people can buy the product. If it’s a physical product, you might also want to include details about where you can buy it in your local area. For instance, if you sell a product that can only be purchased in a particular country, you may want to link to a website that sells the item in that country. If this is the case, you’ll need to make sure that the product is available in the country you want to sell it in, otherwise your customers won’t be able to buy it from you.

If you’re selling a digital product, it’s likely that you can sell it from anywhere in the world, so you don’t need to worry about this. However, you do need to be aware that if your customer is in a different country to you, they may have to pay more to purchase the product than they would if they were in their own country. For this reason, it may make sense to include a country-specific version of your product in your store.

## Different Ways to Describe a Product on Your Ecommerce Site

Now that you know what you should include in the description of your products, let’s look at a few different ways to describe your products on your site. We’ll start with the most basic, and work our way up to the most advanced.

## Basic Product Description

The most basic way of describing a product is to just include the product’s name and a brief description. This is useful if you only have one or two products to describe, but if you have a lot of products, it can get a little tedious to write the same description over and over again. To make things a little easier for you, there are a few tools you can use to automatically generate product descriptions for you. For more information about this, check out this blog post.

## Detailed Product Descriptions

You can also include more detailed information about a product in the product description.

This will add a new `div` tag with the `class` attribute set to “product description”. You can then add any additional information you want in this `div`, such as a detailed description, images, links, and so on.

For example, this is what a product description might look like if you wanted to include images and links to your product’s reviews and ratings.
